Americans win relegation round to remain in top group

The Americans needed a point to win the four-team group and when the game went to overtime, they were guaranteed a spot in next year's World Championship tournament. A third-place finish in the group would have sent the U.S. into the second tier of the International Ice Hockey Federation.

"There was an immense amount of pressure," said American Brandon Dubinsky. "I do not know if a U.S. team was ever relegated before, and none of us wanted to be a part of the first one."

Dubinsky and Ryan Potulny each had a goal and an assist for the U.S. Potulny's power-play goal with 8:52 left in the third period tied the game for the Americans.

France also remained in the top tier of the IIHF with a 5-3 win over Kazakhstan, relegating the Italians and Kazakhs into the lower tier.

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
