Angels, Cards close out series at Busch

Baseball Betting Lines

05/23/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A battle between two aces will take place this afternoon in the finale of a three-game series between the LA Angels of Anaheim and the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

The Angels hope Jered Weaver can keep them in the win column, but the right- hander will have to rebound from his worst outing of the season.

Weaver, 27, took a beating from Texas in his last start on Tuesday, allowing seven runs on nine hits in just 4 2/3 innings of work for the no-decision.

This will be the second-ever outing for Weaver against the Cardinals, but his only other start was a lackluster effort. He lasted just three innings, allowing three runs. Weaver is 6-3 in 11 career interleague outings.

Opposing Weaver will be former Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter, who is off to another terrific start. Carpenter, 35, grabbed his fifth victory on the year with a dazzling performance against Washington.

In the victory over the Nationals, the veteran held the opposition to just two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits in eight innings of work. Carpenter, a righty, struck out five and did not surrender a walk.

After dealing with a few injury-plagued seasons, the Cardinals ace returned to form last year with an outstanding 17-4 ledger. That trend has continued into this season as Carpenter is currently 5-1 with a 2.80 ERA.

The veteran right-hander has made seven starts against the Angels in his career, going 4-2 with a 3.88 ERA.

On Saturday, Kendry Morales went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored, as the Angels held off the Cardinals, 10-7.

Mike Napoli hit a two-run homer for the Angels, who have won three of four. Hideki Matsui and Torii Hunter each knocked in two runs for Los Angeles, which got an RBI apiece from Howie Kendrick and Bobby Abreu.

Scott Kazmir (3-4) had one of his best outings of the season, giving up three runs on three hits in seven innings. He also struck out five and walked three to snap a four-start winless streak. The left-hander won his first game since April 25 against the Yankees.

Matt Holliday smacked a solo home run and hit an RBI double for the Cardinals, who took the series opener, 9-5, and had won four of five coming into Saturday. Skip Schumaker, Felipe Lopez, and Brendan Ryan each drove in a run.

Kyle Lohse (1-4) got rocked in 3 1/3 frames, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks to take the loss. The righty had his ERA rise to 5.89.

The Angels are 129-103 all-time versus the NL, while the Cardinals hold a 101-91 victory versus the Junior Circuit.

These two clubs haven't met since 2007, when the Angels took two of three in St. Louis.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
